This web presentation of
benthic data for the Tappan Zee zone has been provided by the
Crotonville Neighborhood Association of Ossining and by the design
studios of www.lorienhouse.com
and Lizard Interactive as a public service project to bring greater awareness of the
characteristics of the Hudson River in the vicinity of Ossining, NY.
In 1998 the NYS Department
of Environmental Conservation began mapping the submerged lands of
the Hudson River Estuary. The New England Interstate Water Pollution
Control Commission (NEIWPCC) was contracted by the NYS DEC to coordinate
the Benthic Habitat Project and its work was conducted through the
Hudson River Estuary Program and the Hudson River National Estuarine
Research Reserve. Research was conducted by the NEIWPCC, The Columbia
University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the Marine Sciences
Research Center at Stony Brook University, and The Idaho National
Engineering and Environmental Laboratory.
