The Croton River is a uniquely beautiful place and is a spawning area
for anadromous fish like shad and striped bass. It provided
shellfish and fish to the native americans living on both its Ossining and Croton
shores as early as 6000 years ago. More recently, it was the heart of the Van Cortlandt empire
providing food, transportation to New York City markets, and power to run the mills. Currently, the Croton
River is there for all to enjoy.
